Me Me Me Me Me Me MEEEEE!

Heidi tagged me! And while I think I did the "original" version of this meme, a new flare has been added so how could I resist?

Instructions: Remove the blog in the top spot from the following list and bump everyone up one place. Then add your blog to the bottom slot.

watching me grow

citymama
making (nee stitch marker)
step into my thimble

scissorina

Then select five people to tag:

Heather / The Perspicacity of H.
Amy / Happy Things (go welcome her to blogland - she just started hers a couple days ago!)
Sylvie / Pelotes
Steph / Gleek
Marie / Brooklyn Handspun

I’m not sure if this is Larissa’s instruction or if it has been included in earlier versions, but I’m keeping it.

Now change the meme! I know that’s not what’s supposed to happen, but I just have to. I’m that kind of gal. The new people I tag will get a slightly different set of questions.

What were you doing 9 years ago?
I was thinking about leaving college.... having a minor meltdown on accounta all the frigging boundaries.... I was drinking A LOT. And still had an excellent GPA... That was part of my problem with the whole college thing, I think. These feelings soon led me to quit school. Despite all my girlfirends telling me it was the worst decision I'd ever make, I ended up spending the next two years travelling and becoming a much better human being. Way more than I could have done at college, methinks...

What were you doing 6 years ago?

Working my office job. Moved in with a boy I definitely should not have. (Okay, so not all my decisions are winners....) Living in the middle of NOWHERE and hadn't discovered knitting yet. Ouch! On the bright side, I was out of my parents' house for good which helped me save my relationships with Mom and Pop. :)

What were you doing one hour ago?
Pouring myself a glass of Shiraz and gabbing on the phone with my sister, Mary, telling her how I had discovered that one of my favorite people I knew in college now works at the same company I do and that is pretty damn neat.

Name 3 movies you can't turn off if you stumble across them on television.

~Hellboy (it is on HBO all the time and I can't stop watching it!)
~Any of the Matrix movies (even though I own them on DVD... duh!)
~Ghostbusters II

Name 3 things you want to improve upon this year.
~Now that I got super skinnified by all that stress, I figure I should work out like a madwoman and get bufff! Yowza!
~I want to get back into my old positive mindset. The world is my goddamn oyster.
~Self Expression. I want to design some patterns, I want to take a dance class again, and I'd really love to play piano...

Name 3 things you can't live without.
~Samurai movies.
~My dog.
~Veggies.

Name 3 things you could....
~This insane amount of debt I have racked up...
~Inconsiderate people.
~Lion Brand Homespun yarn. (I get the shivers just thinking about it)

Name 3 things you really like about yourself.
~My feet. They're damn cute if I do say so myself.
~I am a terrible liar.
~I would punch someone in the face if I really felt it was necessary. (Sounds like a bad thing, but it's not.)

Now, go forth!

List 2006

You knew it was coming. How could I resist putting together a list of some goals for 2006? If it involves making a list, I'm there! I thought long and hard about these - I really wanted to make an honest list of things I'd been missing and/or things I'd been holding back on. It's the New Year... what better time to do a little self evaluation?

And awaaaaay we go!

Scissor Related

Make at least 2 quilts ~ Already on my way! Still picking out fabrics, but the Bee is up and running! I've picked out my first pattern and need to do some more shopping this weekend. Why, oh why?, does Joann Fabric suck so bad? I want cute fabric people! And I'm not finding it! I'll be scouring the quilt shops this weekend for sure!

Sew: Curtains for my bedroom, skirt (have the pattern and the fabric!), pair of pants ~ After sewing Cait's Husband Bag, I remembered what got me started on all my crafty hobbies in the first place. How I heart sewing! The cutting, the pinning, the need for attention to detail! I adore it and need to get back into it on a regular basis!

Design and knit a fitted black turtleneck sweater ~ I had one that I really loved. It made me feel like a 60's fashion icon every time I put it on. It's long since gone, but it's time it be resurrected! I have the yarn... just need to bite the bullet and pull out that graph paper!

And oh yeah - Get a HAIRCUT!

Sarah Related

Get some outdoor exercise at least once a week - no matter the weather ~ I need to come up with some outdoor Winter and Spring activities! I used to be outside 24/7 and lately I've been feeling totally cooped up in this apartment! I love my couch and all... but it's time this scissorina got her ass outdoors. I feel a weekend trip to Maine for some snowshoeing coming soon...

Finish organizing my home ~ I've put it off for far too long! The first floor is amazing - a total reflection of my style. The upstairs? I don't allow guests up there... Basically two empty rooms sans some boxes, a computer and my bed. I need to seal the deal. I think it will do wonders for my emotional state. :)

Take a Vacation ~ My Dad helped me get off my ass on this one! He gave Mary and I each a roundtrip domestic airfare with some of his frequent flyer miles. No excuses now! I want to go somewhere that will wake me up! Somewhere ridiculously beautiful. So much so that I'll cry at the sight of it. I haven't taken a trip like that in far too long... I think I need something like that every now and then to remind me of who's in here! Possibilities? Utah. Northern California. Washington State.... We'll see!

Take Back My Frigging Life
~ Yeah. I know. It's a bit of a heavy goal - but we're going for honesty here, friends! I still feel like I'm walking around in a fog that just won't lift! I know everyone says that wounds like these just take a lot of time to heal, but I've always believed that one must take an active role in one's own happiness. I need to start walking the walk again. It's not going to be a picnic, but just by writing it down I feel I might have turned a corner.

Phew! That took it out of me! Oh how I hope to look back on this puppy a year from now and see each of these goals (and then some) accomplished! What could feel better? :)

Belated Birthday Blogging

I came home today to a fantastic parcel from my cousin Connie and her awesome family! Take a look at what put a huge grin on my face!

ConCookies.jpg

:)

Little Vee-Dubs! She knows me so well..... It got me thinking that I never shared the amazing presents I recieved last week from my sister and some of my knitty buds! So, here we go!

Dishes.jpg

My sister Mary and her darling Scott (the closest thing I have to a brother!) surprised me with this amaaaaazing set of dishes for my new place! I have to catch my breath each time I eat dinner..... These are stunning! And they took me out for yum yum Indian food to boot! (If any of you are nearby and have a penchant for Indian, you have to go to Kolam in Newtown. It was so delicious! Hands down the best in this area!)

BDayGoodies.jpg

And then I was surprised with some goodies from some of my fellow Scissorinas! Jennie bestowed upon me a hank of Berrocco Hip-Hop in a bright and funky colorway (I see a little girl's hat in my future!), a bar of sage soap and two hanks of the most beautiful laceweight yarn in the hottest of pink!!! *drool* Oh! And a Hello Kitty wallet which is begging to be used!

Christine showered Lantern Moon goodies on me (I am SO spoiled!) - a beautful silk bag and my very own sheepy measuring tape! AND two sheets of MUPPET STAMPS!!!! One to use and one to frame....

If that weren't enough, Michelle gave me a beautiful bracelet in a very posh little leather box! (I so needed something to keep jewelry in!!!)

And - not pictured because it was consumed at Stitch n Bitch hehe - Eva gave me a bottle of yummy Merlot - and a bottle of Baby Bee's lotion that I have been enjoying everyday!

Phew!

Ladies (and gentleman!), you simply rock my world! I wanted to make a big public display to say THANK YOU! You each brighten my days! I am so lucky to have such great gals (and guy!) around me - I'm truly blessed! :)

Tag-o-rama

Ten Years Ago: Just started college, about to turn 18... In a long distance romance with my high school sweetheart which shortly led to one of the numerous and infamous breakups that plagued our time together (oh, the drama!). I was making friends and experimenting with lots of ... stuff. :) I was just at the very beginning of figuring out who I was when I wasn't with my fam... And I was loving every minute of it.

Five Years Ago: Got my office job and was adjusting to the corporate world (so far away from the crunchy granola world I had worked in for the 3 years prior) I bought my first non-junk car and had my first car payment and felt like a total grown up or some junk. Just had another of the infamous and numerous breakups with the aforementioned high school sweetheart (I told you! D-R-A-M-A! Oh, how I hate thee!)

One Year Ago:
Living with the Bune and my sister. This was about the time we got the Hat City Scissor Squad in full swing! YEE HA! Tons of new gals to stitch and bitch (and beer) with! Life was good.

Five Songs I know all the words to: Superstitious by Stevie Wonder, Kings Crossing by Elliott Smith, Frog on my Toe by Tori Amos, Sara(h) by Fleetwood Mac, Never is a Promise by Fiona Apple

Five Things I would do with $100 Million:
1. Buy house with land land land
2. Fill said house with stray dogs and said land with angora goats, merino sheep and 2 cows (How Now and Brown Cow).
3. Buy my parents a house and set them up for life so my dad can write and my mom can make stuff.
4. Pay off all debt incurred by my sisters and pay for the youngest's college in advance.
5. Buy a house on the Lake in Maine that would belong to the family to share share share.

I've been hit!

Tagged again!  This time by Kaitlyn!

5 things i miss from childhood.

If you want to participate the chain-letter part works like this: remove the blog at #1 from the following list and bump every one up one place; add your blog’s name in the #5 spot; just check to make sure the links are still attached if you copy n’ paste.

  1. The Farmette Report
  2. Nepenthe’s Misadventures
  3. dynamiteknits
  4. Sassy Stitchess
  5. Stitch!

1.  Playing Being one of four sisters in a very ...ummm... "creative" house, I feel I have a different outlook on playing than a lot of people do....  Sure, we played a lot of the regular stuff kids did - school, library, yadda yadda yadda...  But I have yet to meet others who played out the sagas that we did with our Barbies and Cabbage Patch kids.  We once had a story that played out over the course of 4 years....  By the time that one story was wrapping up (just to change into another story of course), I was at the age that I shouldn't have been playing with dolls anymore.  We had heroes, villains, tramps, power hungry monsters, and your good ol' sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll.  I shit you not.  My sisters Mary and heather shared a room that was absolutely taken over by this.  My poor Mom would try to clean and we would all FREAK out. You can't move that, Mom!  That's Gilles' throne room!  Don't you know anything???  I'm kind of giddy with the idea that my kids (and their cousins I would presume) will most likely be playing in the same, ridiculously elaborate way that we did.....  I can't wait - despite the knowledge that their messy rooms will be the end of me.....

2.  The Beach When we were kids ( M, H and I that is - sorry Caitlin - you missed the boat!) we would spend a couple of weeks in a tiny one room beachouse in Newport, RI.  Our days were filled with sand castles and tidal pool trekking.  We would go out during low tide and find starfish and snails - and mussels by the ton it seemed!  We would bodysurf and take hikes up to the nearby lighthouse.  On rainy days, we'd stay inside and color and pretend that the dolls we were able to bring were on a vacation of their own in a far off place....  We'd have a special day when we'd go down into town with our Mom and visit our favorite seashell shop, get some cookies and fudge at The Cookie Jar (they had EVERY flavor of Jelly Belly, I swear!) and make our annual stop at The Bear Necessities where we'd each get a teddy.  I loooooove the beach.  I can still go, but it's not the same.  I'm just not a beach-goer in the traditional sense.  I want to live in a tiny space right on the beach for a couple of weeks.... I want my sheets filled with sand and I want my hair to be in a constant french braid that smells like the ocean.  A stop in Fairfield to sit on some sand in front of the Long Island Sound for 3 hours just doesn't do it for me, I guess....  Yet another thing that I am giddy to do with my kids.  (Luckily, the Bune looks forward to this, too....  he hearts bonfires and surfing!  The beach is a definite on our family vacation list.)

3. Sidewalks.  For the 4 years that we lived in New York with my Great Grandfather, we lived on a dead end street.  With sidewalks, no less!  Having moved to Connecticut, where sidewalks can only be found in the downtown area of your town (if you are lucky!) I truly appreciate the memory of riding my bike down that sidewalk, playing hopscotch on that sidewalk, concentrating like crazy in every attempt to avoid stepping on the cracks of that sidewalk.  (What?  My Mother's back was in danger, people!)  Now having a dog and wanting to go for long walks, with and without her, I would love to have a sidewalk again!

4.  Camping.  Along the same lines as #2.  Same deal - a couple of weeks vacation for M, H and I but this time in a big old tent with our Mom and Dad and yellow lab on The Lake in Maine.  The same exact spot, as a matter of fact, that my Uncle Andy and Aunt Missy built their beautiful home and we have continued to visit every summer!  So, I do not miss the lake, as I have luckily had that as a constant in my life.  What I do miss is that feeling of camping out in the wilderness with adventure lurking around every corner!  That place is a serious playground for a child - let alone three with big imaginations.  Our time spent in the woods - quite often with just our Mom (she's a tough broad) - really developed a real love of the outdoors in me.  I can't get enough!  I love to hike and to sleep in a tent and I don't get to do either one enough!  (mental note:  make some damn TIME to do these things.)  We spent hours in the water and in the sailboat with our Pop.  Water was definitely a theme for us growing up, huh?

5.  My Paternal Grandmother.  My Dad's Mom passed away when I was pretty young - almost 7.  But, I guess there was just something about her that I clicked with.  Being old enough now to do a little self examination, I can appreciate even more the connection I felt I had with her.  Mary Jane French was a badass, a rebel, and one stylish lady.  She was very young when she had my Dad - and he was her only child.  My Dad, in turn, was pretty young when he had me, so she was a very young Grandmother!  (Something I don't think she ever really got used to!)  She loved fashion and would take me to Saks, Lord & Taylor and Bloomie's.  She was an executive assistant at United Features Syndicate in the City and worked with Charles Schultz (Peantus) and Jim Davis (Garfield).  I cannot begin to tell you how much cool stuff we got.  I remember a blue snowsuit covered in Peanuts comic strips... Anyways, she had an air of sophistication and intelligence about her and I just about worshipped the ground she walked on.  I was pretty devastated when she died.  But - that was when our family  moved form Maine to Yonkers to live with Poppy (my Great Grandfather) - all three of us (again - sorry Caitlin... why'd they wait so damn long to have you??) got to have a relationship with him that we otherwise might have missed out on due to distance.  So, I guess everything happens for a reason, hm?

Okay - that was a nice trip down Memory Lane!  And who should I tag?  hmmm...  Okay - The Other Christine, Mary (will yours be the same as mine?), and Karen!

I got tagged!

Karen tagged me!

id·i·o·syn·cra·sy
Pronunciation Key
n. pl. id·i·o·syn·cra·sies
A structural or behavioral characteristic peculiar to an individual or group.

Write down five of your own personal idiosyncracies. Then, if you wish, tag five people from your live gerbil or friendslist to do the same.

Here we go...  Prepare yourself.

1.  I won't eat any candy that will change my tongue colors.  No Green Apple Blow Pops, no Blue Raspberry Air Heads, no Grape Jolly Ranchers.  If it's not red or pink, I just won't have anything to do with it (unless it's candy that won't dye my mouth...).  Somewhere along the line, I decided I didn't want attention drawn to my tongue and that was that.  Suits me just fine now, since I ended up having a preference for cherry and strawberry flavored things anyway, but I deinitely remember it being quite a concious decision when I was younger.  It stuck.

2.  I need to chew food evenly.  For some reason, I can't deal with the feeling that one side of my mouth has been doing all the chewing...  Therefore, I find myself actually making an effort to distribute my dinner equally between both sides of my mouth.

*Sarah pauses for a moment to take in the realization that she will need some serious therapy after completing this exercise.*

Moving on...

3.  I am constantly writing nonsensical notes on scraps of paper...  Lists, numbers, thoughts.  Anything that is on my mind that I decide must be written down so I can remember later.  My purse is constantly filled with these scraps of paper covered in words and numbers that I never seem to read again before throwing in the recycling bin once a week.

4.  I get incredibly ill tempered when I am hungry.  And we're not talking a little on the grumpy side - I get mean.  I make a serious attempt to snack on little bits of food and candy throughout the day at work so I can keep my job.  It's so commonplace that if I snap at the Bune, he immediately asks me if I'm hungry rather than engaging in an argument with me.  9 times out of 10, the answer is yes.

5.  I don't "high five".  I think it is dumb and I just won't do it.  When faced with someone attempting to high five me, I decline.  They insist.  I refuse.  They demand an explanation.  I've discovered that people get very defensive about the high five.  I'm convinced that something about the feeling of being "left hangin' " causes an individual to regress to the age of 8 when these actions had a very significant meaning.

Okay - cat's out of the bag, people.  I'm crazy!  Yipes.  Only thing left to do is ride my bike over to the loony bin.  But, before I go, I gotta tag some people:

Christine, Sandra, Anne, Gina, Heather - you're it!

I'll admit that I am secretly hoping that these tags will result in more neurotic and strange behaviors than those I just listed so I might feel a little less insane.

I am the one who is known as It.

Now you are the one who is known as It.

So, I've been tagged by my sister, Mary for this book listy thinger....  Let's go!

Total number of books in your house:
Ummm....  a gajillion?  That would be halfa gajillion for me and another halfa gajillion for the Bune.  Oh Yeah!  And another halfa gajillion for Mary.

So, approximately 1.5 gajillion books.  Yes.

The last book you bought was:
Last Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson

What was the last book you read before reading this?
Well - about a dozen kitting books.  :)

Real book you say?  I'm halfway through A History of the Wife by Marilyn Yalom.  And I started Labrynth of Evil by James Luceno, but I just couldn't get into it... The Bune will have to give me the synopsis before opening night....

I'm back to reading Hitchhiker's Guide again....  ha.

Write down 5 (or 6) books you often read or that mean a lot to you.

White Teeth by Zadie Smith
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Series by Douglas Adams
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
The Princess Bride, retold by William Goldman
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis
Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac
Howl by Allen Ginsberg

Oh dear, that's more than 6 isn't it?  I'm known for re-reading books rather than buying new ones....

Who are you going to pass the stick to (three people) and why?

Hmmm... how about....
1.  Kaitlyn (because we have many eerie similarities... let's see how we do with books!)
2.  Christine (because she's cool, that's why!)
3.  Caitlin (cuz she is my littlest sister and sometimes these lists are the only way I get new information from a tight lipped teeny bopper.)

My Interview

Christine has interviewed me!  Wanna play?  Leave me a comment that you'd like to be interviewed and I will make up 5 questions for you to answer!  :)

1) Aside from your fabulous blog STITCH!, you also are involved in an amazing circle of crafty ladies, the hat city scissor squad. Tell us a little about it, how it got started and what you all are currently up to!

Gladly! Basically, I wanted to get involved in a Stitch 'n Bitch in my area, but the closest gathering was still a 40 minute drive for me.... Not gonna happen! Then I heard of a group that was starting to meet at a nearby quilt shop - but it still just didn't feel right.... I was talking to my sister Mary about it and we both agreed that we really wanted to meet some like-minded craftistas! We didn't care about age - but we wanted to meet some open minded, fun, creative people! I whined to Mary that she needed to learn how to knit so she could come along if I started a group. And then we had a simultaneous epiphany. Why not start a SnB type of group for all crafts? Not just knit and crochet! We sat around and thought of a spunky name (we are QUITE proud of it, thank you very much) and thus, The Hat City Scissor Squad was born. We started as just me, Mary, and our bud Michelle hangin out at the local coffee house, but then we created a Yahoo! group site and posted on Craftster and Get Crafty and all of the sudden we had a half dozen scissorinas!

Over the past 9 months or so, we have grown to a group of 20 and have held Scissor Swap night (where we traded all of our extra craft supplies!), Bath Goodie Making Day, and have now started to hold charity craft-alongs. Right now we are running a Secret Scissor Swap - we each picked names out of a hat and we'll now make something for our Secret Scissor Pal! Next up will be a Naked Lady Party to swap unwanted clothes (and give the extras to Goodwill!) and we're thinking about organizing some "theme nights" where we might teach fellow scissorinas something that we've learned to do! Such as using a drop spindle, making knitting needles, or crafting your own stitch markers.....

I love this group of gals - they are exactly the people I needed to meet! We alternate our meetings between that good ol' coffee house and a bar. :) I love me some knitting and beer. I guess that kind of sums up our group's attitude right there... haha.

2) You have a tight-knit relationship with your family, tell us one thing about each member that you love them for.

Tight knit, eh? Haha. Thats about right... Well, there are a lot of us, so I'd best dive right into it!

My Pop - I love his tenacity... My Dad does't give up too easily on anything and it has rubbed off on me. He is quite stubborn, which I find to be a very good quality. Well, would you look at that? I have that quality, too! How convenient....

My Mom - I love her creativity! My mom can turn a bedsheet into a ballgown, I swear to God! She has always been able to make a whole lot out of a whole little, and with style....

My sisters:

Mary - My sister Mary is possibly the most whimsical person I have ever met. Now, this can sometimes be a frustrating quality for someone very practical minded such as myself... But, no matter how frustrating it can be, it really is my favorite quality she posesses. It's also something I find very difficult to describe or explain.... Let's just say, she quite often has her head in the clouds - and when she's up there she gets some pretty fantastic ideas....

Heather - Wit, my friend. Wit. Heather has a sharp mind, but a sharper tongue. I love to sit around with this gal and make fun of stuff, people, ridiculous beliefs... When we are together, we often hazard a guess that we are going straight to Hell, but I am betting on God having an even better sense of humour than Heather.

Caitlin - Okay, by far the hardest to narrow down to just one thing! Cait is the youngest of us girls - and I am the oldest. When she was born, I was old enough to babysit. And I did! While my Mom worked nights, I changed diapers, sang her to sleep, and got to watch her grow into a cute little pixie. Of course, she kept growing and now towers over me... I feel like a dwarf next to this kid! When she was 3 or 4, she started calling me "best friend" along with her mangled version of my name (she called me "Chara") and we had little heart shaped necklaces to prove it. By the time I left for college, she was 5 and it was ridiculously hard to go! I love just about everything about Caitlin - I just can't pick one thing. I think the next people I will be able to say that about will be my own kids. :)

3) Who taught you to knit and what got you into knitting in the first place?

I decided to learn to knit about a year and a half ago because I do a lot of other crafts (sewing especially) and I thought it would be a good thing to know how to do just for the experience... To add embellishments to clothes, etc... So, I went out and bought a "Learn to Knit One Ugly Scarf Kit" and got crackin! I liked it so much I went out to the book store and searched around for a cool book..... Guess what I found? Once my eyes gazed upon Stitch n Bitch by Debbie Stoller, it was all over. I taught myself to knit using that first crappy kit, SnB, and the fabulous interweb, which is what turned me on to the wonder of knitting blogs! I love knitting more than I ever loved sewing - which is saying quite a bit.... Actually, I think that my love of knitting has sparked my love of sewing all over again - I can't wait to make some dresses this Spring to go along with some of the shrugs and wraps I have in mind.....

4) Where did you meet your man, what are his "intentions" (haha, sorry just had to use that phrase) and what is the number one reason you love him so? (That's a hard question! You can only pick ONE!)

I met my man at opening night of the re-release of Return of the Jedi. He was sitting behind me with a friend of mine. He called me a "hippie" and I told him that I preferred not to be classified as any one thing and that he should shove it. Upon speaking with him that night after the movie and participating in a heated discussion about vegetarianism (he was con, I was pro...), I decided this guy was an arrogant ass, who was definitely not worth my time! We became friends over time and he became one of the few people I felt I could really talk to. He's always told it like it is, with no apologies and it became clear that this was something very rare and admirable. It wasn't until 2 years ago, after being friends for almost 6 years, that anything romantic ever happened. I look back, of course and realize that I was absolutely in love with him for at least 4 out of those 6 years..... but hindsight's 20/20 right? Anyhoo, we've been together ever since and I have never had a relationship like this before - and honestly, didn't think I'd ever have one this good.....

His intentions are pure I assure you! We talk a lot about getting married, but he wants to improve his own financial situation before we do that. (I don't care about it, but he's pretty insistent). Whenever and however it happens, I can't wait. He's my best bud. :) And he's a looker to boot! Yowza!

The number one reason I love him so is.... drumroll please....his willingness (and desire) to talk about anything. He is an amazing communicator - anything that is going on, anything he is feeling, he wants to discuss. I love and appreciate that more than anything else. We don't have any secrets and we keep an open line of communication at all times. Because of that, I think we have mutual trust! I trust him enough to tell him what's on my mind or that I'm upset and I know his reaction isn't going to be that he doesn't want to deal with it! He always wants to know - and I think thats pretty amazing.

5) Have you ever been to a pyschic?

No, but I have been around plenty of people who fancy themselves to be psychic.... I've had my Tarot read more times than I can count, but I really doubt more than one of those people actually had a clue about what they were doing... I do believe there are people out there that have psychic abilities though! Just not the five dozen people who have told me they do.

p. s.  here are the rules to play along!
1. Leave me a comment saying “interview me.”
2. I will respond by asking you five questions here. They will be different questions than the ones above.
3. You will update YOUR blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Gotta Make a Move to a Town that's Right For Me

1. My name is Sarah Jayn McNally.
2. I was born Sarah McNally Stupple.
3. When I was very little, my Dad decided to take his step-father’s last name as our family name (because he was the greatest Dad/Grampa ever!) For a short period of time, no one could think of a middle name for me so my name was actually Sarah McNally McNally.
4. As a result, some of my family still calls me Sarah Mac-Mac.
5. I am the oldest of 4 girls. We range from 27 to 14 years old….
6. The 4 of us are ridiculously close, even though we now live semi-all over the place.
7. My Mom and Dad are still young – only 48!
8. They are still married and I am glad.
9. I live in Connecticut in a badass little apartment with some animals and an enormous amount of craft supplies.
10. I speak some French and some Spanish.
11. I would like to become fluent in both.
12. I'm very competitive.
13. I am a very cautious person. I think about everything before I do it…. but I love it when I take a chance.
14. I am a terrible liar.
15. I am happy that I am a terrible liar.
16. I hate clutter.
17. I have a dog (Kyra) and two cats (Mr. T and Flane) – they pretty much run my life.
18. I grew up with lots of animals – my family is a sucker for a stray anything.
19. I vowed I wouldn’t have a lot of animals until I owned my own home.
20. My sister and I found Flane living under the house we used to rent together.
21. I found Mr. T living in the sideyard of the apartment I live in now. Apparently, the Universe has a real nice sense of humor.
22. I went to college for 3 semesters.
23. I majored in Art History and minored in Music.
24. I left because I ran out of money and my scholarship wouldn’t cover everything. I decided not to take out loans since I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with myself.
25. I have a lot of other reasons why I left, but that would be another list….
26. When I left school, I was 19 years old. I took a job (through the company my Dad worked for at the time) taking inventory of parts on an AT&T Trans-Oceanic Cable Ship. I worked on the ship for 6 weeks – 12 hours days with only one afternoon off.
27. The afternoon off was in Oahu, Hawaii. So it was worth it.
28. That job was one of my greatest adventures to date. I got to sail from Hawaii to Victoria, B.C.
29. I LOVE THE OCEAN!
30. The girl I worked with and I were the only women on an all male crew.  That was the first time I really understood what it felt like to be in the minority. The guys were nice but they were hesitant and quiet around us….. They’d stop talking when we’d walk into a room….
31. When we got to Victoria, I bought a used pair of coveralls with the name “Dave” painted on the pocket. That broke the ice. My name was Dave for the rest of my time on the ship and they didn’t quiet down anymore when I walked in a room.
32. My first car was a 1979 VW Bus that I bought from the girl I worked with on that trip.
33. She lived in Seattle so I had to drive it back to Connecticut.
34. It was a stickshift and I had never driven a stick before.
35. Numbers 33 and 34 are a good way to sum up my personality.
36. The trip back to Connecticut would also be another list…..
37. I still have the Bus - I can't seem to bring myself to let it go....
38. I am only the second owner. He is super great.
39. I work as a secretary now to pay my bills. It’s ok but I want to do something more creative.
40. My Mom is an amazing seamstress and can master any craft as far as I can see.
41. She has encouraged all 4 of her daughters to find a creative outlet and do something with their hands.
42. I sew, quilt, bead, do paper crafts, and am a decent photographer.
43. I learned to knit during the Winter of 2003 - it has since consumed my life.
44. I was going to go to school for Fashion Design…..but had a change of heart.
45. My Dad plays piano and guitar and writes short stories.
46. He has encouraged all of his 4 daughters to appreciate music and develop logic and debate skills.
47. I loooove music, but can’t play any instruments (a little piano but that’s it). But, I can sing and used to be a pretty good sight reader.
48. I love to converse, discuss and especially ARGUE! What? It’s fun!
49. I tend to be very sarcastic....

52. My favorite chefs are Sara Moulton and Ina Garten.
53. I love to watch the Iron Chef on Food Network.
54. My Grandfather on my mother’s side played in the Minor Leagues and rubbed elbows with some pretty famous Red Sox players in his day.
55. I inherited absolutely no athletic abilities from my Grandfather the baseball player. I throw like a girl. And run like one, too.
56. But, I did dance for 9 years and that takes muscle, bay-bee!
57. I also love hiking, canoeing, and yoga. (Sweating is good for you!)
58. I was born in Maine and lived there until I was 6.
59. My Mom is from Maine originally and her brother and a bunch of family still live up there.
60. Every summer we meet up at The Lake. It’s land that belonged to my Grandfather that was passed on to my Mom and her brother Andy. The land is now just Andy’s (and his awesome wife Missy’s) and they have built a beautiful house there.
61. They live on the best part of The Lake – hands down!
62. The Lake is my happy thought and my very favorite place in the world.
63. It is also my dog’s happy thought and her very favorite place in the world as she runs around like a maniac with no leash jumping in the water every 5 seconds.
64. Another one of my favorite places is Paris.
65. When I was 15, we had a French exchange student stay with us for the better part of a year… She was supposed to only stay one month and then stay with another family each month for the year – but she didn’t want to leave and we didn’t want her to go!!!
66. That Summer, I went back to France with her and got travel all around the country meeting her family!
67. It was my first trip on my own….sans parents! It was one of the best things I ever did.
68. We had one night in Paris at the end of the trip and it was amazing.
69. I’ve since been back to Paris once….with my family! It was equally amazing.
70. I really want to go back again……
71. I’ve been to Graceland.
72. I took a week long road trip to get there.
73. It was cool, but the trip as a whole was better than Graceland on it’s own.
74. I love to travel and am feeling restless lately because I have no dollars to take a trip!
75. I am a Liberal. A really liberal Liberal.
76. I believe in a lady’s right to choose.
77. I think you should be able to marry who you love – even if who you love has the same reproductive equipment you do.
78. I don’t believe in the death penalty – my best reason is that our legal system is so full of flaws that it is rare that you know for a fact that the individual is even guilty. That and I think we should be past killing people at this point….. one can dream…
79. I really really really hate George Bush. Both of ‘em.
80. I believe in some conspiracies but it takes a lot to convince me of one.
81. I believe in God….but I don’t believe in God. Yeah – tricky, huh?
82. I have baby dreams from time to time. It’s always twins. Yikes!
83. I think I'd like to have 2 kids. Maybe not at the same time…..but either way, it’s cool.
84. If I do ever have twins, I'm gonna name them Luke and Leia.
85. Yes, I AM that big of a Star Wars geek.
86. I love the Muppets.
87. And York Peppermint Patties.
88. I am a huge sports fan. I like that it’s really happening and isn’t a scripted sitcom or some junk.

95. When I die, I want a Viking funeral….you know the kind…. I want to be placed on a wooden raft and set out to sea….when I’m out a little ways, I want flaming arrows shot on to my raft. Then someone hits play on the boombox for my funeral anthem….”Funkytown” by Lipps, Inc.
96. If for some reason this doesn’t happen… I’d like to be stuffed and handed down to the oldest child of each generation. And I want to be dressed up for holidays.
97. I run a crafty group in my area and have met some great craft buddies We’re called the Hat City Scissor Squad and we’re hardcore.
