Rock On
After yesterday' somber post, I thought we could all use something a little more... festive.
Enjoy: http://www.originalalamo.com/austinairguitar%5Fcom/austin.html
Man, if I had only stuck with my passion for air guitar, I could have been been somebody.....

Farewell, HST
Yesterday someone I admire very much stuck a gun to his head and pulled the trigger.
I am left to wonder "What does it mean?"
I suppose it doesn't mean much of anything. It does't change anything about the way he lived his life or wrote about the world. It certainly doesn't change the impact he had on his industry or the influence he had on generations of aspiring writers. It doesn't mean he meant for anyone to even speak a g--damned word about it - about that I am certain.
It is what is is. And it makes me sad.
We'll miss you. We'll miss your voice.
Maybe you'll come back as a peacock....

A New Project
Well, I am rolling right along with Charlotte and have almost one whole sock done - but I was craving something new..... So I dove into my stash and scoured my books and mags and came up with a winning combination! I am going to use all that beautiful Rowan Summer Tweed I had been staring at to make the Silkroad Cardigan by Jo Sharp, which can be found in the Fall 2004 issue of Interweave Knits. I had to go down a size in the needles, but it's knitting to gauge now and lookin good so far! This sweater has very simple construction and I can no longer resist it's beauty... It has been calling to me :) I'll still be plugging away with Charlotte, but I needed another project since I so often knit by mood at this point. And sometimes lace just isn't what I want..... Progress pics soon, my pretties. p. s. if anyone out there has 2 or 3 skeins of Rowan Summer Tweed in Oats, give a holler if you'd like to trade - I'm using Rush for the body, but need Oats for the collar..... ;)

OH BABY
I decided that the little guy we got to hang with on Tuesday night really deserved his own post. :)
The fantastic, the charming, the well mannered and too handsome for words - the one - the only! - Julian.
We all melted in this young man's presence. Indeed one of (if not THE) cutest babies I have ever seen.... let alone hang with! This is BY FAR the best thing any of us have made.
I'd also like to mention here that Michelle is the most calm mother I have ever seen. No doubt this is why her baby is so calm.... something to remember when the time comes in the Land o' Stitch!
Okay - let's say it together..... AWWWWWWWW.
While we were there, the lad was kind enough to strip down to his skivvies to model those booties I knit him (what seems to be) forever ago!

The young man loves to sit around in his socks and underwear... but what guy doesn't?
For more pics of us bowing down to his royal cuteness, pop on over to the Baby Blog that Mary set up for Michelle to record his handsome mug for posterity.

A Stash-Busting Scissor Swap
So the Hat City Scissor Squad had our first official Scissor Swap Tuesday evening at Michelle's house. What a freakin' blast!!!! We had snacks,WINE, and tons and tons of craft supllies and books spread over a few tables.....

This was a super opportunity to clean out my stash!!! I brought a ton of fabric and all the yarn that I knew I wasn't going to dedicate to a project. Anne brought a huge bag of cotton chenille that we all quickly ate up, and another bag full of beautiful yarns and fabrics! She was the stash-busting queen, hands down - as she departed Michelle's that night with just a shoe box full of her finds.... The rest of us .... did not show that kind of restraint. :)
Here we are in action....
And here's what I came home with....
3 balls of Plymouth Kick (SOOOO FUZZY! Sure to be a comfy hat....), a skein of hot pink fuzzy acrylic (I am such a sucker), some pretty faery colored Red Heart (why not?), my share of the cotton chenille (legwarmers, here I come!) and a couple pieces of fabric for some summer tops.... And some beeswax and flavor oils.... And a suncatcher kit..... Okay - it sounds like a lot, but I came to the house with waaaay more! I was a good girl fer sure. Went with 2 big shopping bags - came home with one! *Sarah beams with pride.*
We had a blast doing this - and have decided we must have a stash-busting Scissor Swap twice a year! End of Winter... End of Summer.... I have a feeling we'll have more folks at the next one too - once we rave about this to everyone, we will have a mob next time...
More tomorrow on our guest of honor... :)

Skullsville, USA
My darling's sweater is finally complete! After a month of searching for the yarn to finish it up, Skully is done and pret-a-porter! Here we go!
Here is the monster blocking.... Wow - too big for my homemade blocking boards! :)
And here's a detail of one of the Mr. Skullheads.....
And my handsome hunny (the Bune himself) in his custom knit sweater. He's so dreamy... ;)
The Specs:
Skully, from Stitch 'n Bitch by Debbie Stoller
10 skeins of Lamb's Pride Bulky in Deep Charcoal, 1 skein of LP Bulky in White.
Knit on size 10.5US circular needles.
Changes: Only a couple.... I made the sleeves and the body a couple of inches longer per Jamie's request. I think it came out looking great since the sweater is long, yet close fitting for his big man chest. Sex-ay!
Comments: I loved knitting this! My first intarsia project - and I did okay! I'm really glad that the first sweater I knit for my sweetie involved a nice knitting challenge for me. It made it even more meaningful when it was done and I presented him with it. :)

Charlotte!
A new obsession here in the Land of Stitch... I've begun Charlotte's Web! My first lace project and while it seemed very intimidating at first, I think I'm getting the hang of it. Let's take a peek!
I'm totally hooked! And it helps that I totally lerv the colors I picked... All purples (my fave), blues and pinks.... HOT HOT HOT!
The Skully photo shoot was postponed today due to a sick boyfriend. We are hoping to do it tomorrow - nice sunny day and all! I do assure you though - it is done and I am quite pleased with the way it came out. More tomorrow.....

Seam Central!
That's right, folks! I have thrown down the needles and picked up a tiny needle instead! It's been a regular one lady sewing circle round here.... Skully (!!!) has been blocked and half sewn up the little bugger is! And that lovely Ribby Cardi is all sewn up and waiting for that zipper o' mine to arrive in the Post... I hope to install it this weekend. Though I must confess I have been wearing the sweater around the house sans zipper on accounta I lerv it soooo muchly.
No pics right now since I couldn't seem to get anything to upload the last couple of times I tried.... That's ok - it will make the unveiling of the sweaters all that much more exciting! Ooooh!
We had a fun Scissor Squad meeting last night (I love when we drink beer and knit... I feel so... social!) Our group is growing in size and I am so happy to have a cool group of no nonsense chicks around to craft with. Next week, we are holding our very first Scissor Swap at our girl Michelle's hiz-ouse. We're all going to bring all the crafty supplies and books we don't want and create a big free-for-all..... Oh it does my cheap heart good.... Free stuff! And I get to de-clutter my stash! YES! And we will be fancy and drink wine! YES! I will definitely record the evening for posterity - pics forthcoming....
