The Perspicacity of H.

My sister Heather finally wrote something on the new blog that our sister Mary set up for her....  and it's f-ing* hysterical.

http://scribblenation.typepad.com/the_perspicacity_of_h/

Please drop by and encourage her to continue updating this new blog, for I despise LiveJournal.  (It's great for your first place, but after a while, it's time to move on up to the East Side.  Especially when a gal like H has such hysterically lovely things to rant about!  Why not rant in style?)

In the world of blogs, it is the equivalent of having a close family member live in some smelly town and being forced to visit often.  What is it about LJ?  People get sucked in and it's like you need an intervention to get them to post anywhere else!  "No one will comment on my site if I move!", they cry. "My friends won't come to my site if I'm not on LJ!"

People.  What is this?  A cult?  At the very least I am hearing some serious peer pressure.  Maybe we should make an after school special on the topic.

I'll take a page out of Mom's book right now and say, "If they won't come to your site just because it isn't on LJ, then they're not real friends."

Okay.  Now I am sure to bring down upon me the wrath of the entire LJ community.  And my little sister Caitlin is sure to kick me in the shin.  Hard

C'est la vie.

*family eyes read this blog and it makes me hesitate to swear.  One of these days, I'll get past it...  sometimes you need the obscenities to emphasize the written word!  That, and I think bad words are funny.

Park It!

Dog park it, that is!  We have discovered a new playground for pups nearby and Kyra loooooves it!

The Bune and I took her on Friday afternoon after work and it was a hit!  Lots of dogs to make new friends with, a huge field to run around like the little nut that she is, a couple of small trails upon which to hike, and a river to jump in for a nice cool down!  I took her back today and she loved it twice as much.  I think I'm about to have a new after work routine, folks.

Here are some gratuitous pictures of the lady of the hour.  (And her proud papa....)

In related news, let's look at how freaking cute my cat Flane is....  We discovered on Tuesday night (when the Scissor Squad meeting poured over to our house because the f'ing coffeeshop decided to close at 9 instead of 10 like we were told they would!) that Flane loooooves babies.  Julian was tring to pet him and shocked to discover that Flane did not run and hide like his kitties at home do!  In fact, Flane snuggled right up to him, treating him to a few of his trademark headbutts.

Flanejulian2
That's a goooood boy, Flane!

Orangina
And oh yeah - I do still knit.  Here's my meager progress on Orangina!  And Lelah is almost done, too!

**How could I forget????  I was treated to a neat surprise in my mailbox yesterday!  The Fall issue of Interweave Knits!  I literally did a happy dance in the street.  I am SO knitting the Union Square Market Pullover.  Who's with me?

Wanna play?

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth full sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around for the coolest book you can find. Use what's actually nearest to you.

Start Your Search Engines

So, I head into Typepad's main site today to check out my viewer stats and take a look at referring pages, as I often do...  and a certain Google search catches my eye...

Now, I must preface this with the fact that I am used to seeing the following Google searches which result in a visitor's stop by my site:

boob (by FAR the most common!)
boob covers
McBoob

These are all thanks to the bikini I knit my buddy Joda what seems like forever ago... I called her Joda McBoob and showed some lovely pics of her fabulous boob covers.  I could have put a stop to it....  I could have changed the name...  But whatever.  I did warn her though, that her boobs and their covers would be posted and that SURELY this would be the top attraction of my blog!

But I digress...

What I found today SHOCKED me!  It was a Google search for:

Sarah McNally Knitting*

My God.  No boobs?  No covers?  Just me and my silly ol' yarn?

Awww.  (sniffle.)  I feel a little misty.

So, if you are out there Google searcher, reveal yourself!  For you are the first person (besides me) to look me up on Google and visit my site!  I'll give you a gold star or some junk....

*This was also quite amusing to me since my sisters Mary and Heather have both recently taken to Googling the names of former elementary school chums to see what the heck ever happened to 'em.  Perhaps someone is playing the same game?  I hope you're not a hater, whoever you are.

5. Commit to Some Knitting Projects.

Done.

I broke out some of le stash to work on Lelah!  I'm knitting her up in Phildar Onde* in Volcan....  Only one lace repeat to go!

Lelelah
Here she is in all her hot pink to orange glory - photos just don't do this yarn justice... I hate that it's discontinued!

Oh - and it doesn't stop there.  Mary and I stopped by A Stitch in Time in Bethel on Saturday.  They've just changed locations and their new shop looks FAB!  Already a bigger yarn selection - hazah!  Blue Sky Alpaca!  Manos!  Yummers, indeed.  So... even though we were there to look for Mary's next project... I just happened to pick something up for moi.

Oranginaingredients
Some Cotton Glace for Orangina!  Oh baby.

Sockkit
And what's this?  A pattern and some hand dyed yarn for a pair of me socks!

And oh yeah!  Dad's super Dad Day surprise?  Done!  A pair of soft and cozy Broken Rib socks in Classic Elite Inca Alpaca!  And (drum roll please, Animal) they fit like a dream!  Oooh.  When yer good, yer good.  Of course, I was not good enough to remember to take a picture, so we must wait for the opportunity to arise....

And it doesn't even stop there folks!  Because now, with Lelah, Orangina and the Gypsy Mesh Pullover..... that's 3 - count 'em! - 3 lace projects going at once.

When did this happen?  How did this happen?  I guess I am really digging the lace, eh?

*props to karen for trading this to me waaay back when!  I knew I would find the perfect project for it eventually!

I am an Excellent List Maker.

Did you know?

My family sure does.  The Bune is painfully aware.

I. Love. Lists.

I've recently realized, however, that I have deprived my crafty life of a list for far too long!  It's time to get my hobbies under control!  GOALS, people, GOALS!

  1. Put the hurt on that bulging fabric stash I have.  The poor sewing machine has been sitting in a dark corner feeling neglected.  It's time she had her time in the spotlight.  I need to stash bust out some skirts and tanks.
  2. Cover my disgusting couch.  I need to buy a good book on slipcovers and buy some cheap fabric at Chintz-n-Prints and end the madness that has take over my living room.  I hate the slipcover I bought and, even more, I hate the couch in it's naked state.  Carefully covering it in a fabric I like is a lot more economical than what I'd like to do.  What would I like to do, I hear you ask?  Well, nightly, I dream of shoving this beast out the front door and into oncoming traffic and running (literally) to Crate and Barrel to charge my dream sofa to my credit card.  Not gonna happen, friends.
  3. Get my arse to Ikea to pick up some bookcases.  We have a lot of books.  In piles.  In boxes.  On the floor.  Under the bed.  My crafty book collection alone has taken over what was once known as the laundry room.  Now, I must control myself when inside Ikea to purchase these items and these items alone.  (I seriously love me some Ikea.)
  4. Spin some damn yarn.  Now that the temperatures have dipped slightly below the Hades mark, I need to spin furiously away to get something accomplished before the air gets steamy again and I turn back into a pool of moosh on afore-mentioned disgusting couch.
  5. Commit to some knitting projects.  Okay.  I've been pretty freakin indecisive.  But that's all over now.  Now that we have the list!  I will be starting Lelah this week and will be stash busting some lervly pink and orange Phildar Onde.  I've decided to go with Lauren's take on Lelah.  Though I am a complete slave to the tube top, (Seriously, ask the gals at the Scissor Squad... it's almost exclusively what I talk about.) I think I could use some "brick slings" as she so eloquently puts it.  There are a few other projects I am drooling over, but I've been trying so hard not to buy yarn.  I think I may allow myself one project's worth soon though... I need a fix!  So, it's between Nothin But a T-shirt (mmmm Calmer....) or Orangina.  That's yet to be decided.  Thus, it's addition to the list.  I also need to work on a few more stash busting proects..... Decisions, decisions.

Today I had me a laugh.

Have one yourself!

I submit to you, for your reading pleasure, 2 freakin hysterical blogs to pee your pants to.

And no, smartypants, this isn't just because I have no new knitting progress to report due to the sweltering heat.  It's just a coincidence.

So there.

Hot Hot Hot

Ay-chee-wamma!  It is hot!  This is the first thing I've willed myself to do all day....  I've been laying on the couch in front of my fan zoning out to the sound of the television and reading knitting books....  and haven't done much else.

But, I've been a pretty sad excuse for a blogger lately, so I thought it best to suck it up and post a freakin update for a change!  :)

Yesterday, Kaitlyn and her sister Bevin came over for lunch with me and my sister Mary!  It was greally great to see Kaitlyn again and her sister is just as cool as she is.  I made some yummy lunch (VEGGIES!  And hummus and tabouli and goat cheese and pita...  mmmmm pita.) and we munched and drank a bottle (okay let's get real... a couple of bottles) of Pinot.  It was really nice to cook for similar tastes for a change!  Don't get me wrong... the Bune is coming around - but it is a slooooow process.  It's been a while since I could go all out on a vegetarian meal besides the few staples that he'll eat.

I was supposed to help Kaitlyn out with seaming her hubby's sweater but I fear I was a bit too tipsy for the full on demo... I gave her some pointers, but I hope it was enough to help!  (There's a reason I don't get much done at our Scissor Squad meetings at the bar....)  Her sweater, by the way, looked fab and I can't wait to see a pic of the finished project.  And with her mad knitting skills, I bet she could seam that bad boy up with or without my (or anyone's) assistance!

We hung, drank, chatted and perused the Japanese knitting books that Kaitlyn's mother-in-law brought back for her from her trip.  It was an all around lovely afternoon, friends.  But hot as Hell.  I swear I have been drenched in sweat since Friday night when I got home from work.  Gross, right?  Right.

For some knitting progress, here's a pic of where I stand on the Gypsy Mesh Pullover from IWK - Almost done with the front piece:

Gypsymeshfront
I've been a bit stalled on this lovely lady on account of the Super Secret Dad Day project I've been working to finish.  But, soon she'll be up and running again!

OH!  And in the wide world of the world wide web, I've started work on a new site that I'll be exporting all of my entries over to.  Now, I'm no techie so this may take a little time, but I am psyched about having my own little dot com name and I'm looking forward to learning more about just what makes a website tick.  Stay tuned....

Makin Yarn.

Finally - here are some pics of my spinning progress!

Wensleydale

Here's some orchid colored wensleydale I ordered online from Copper Moose.  They have yummy fibers and amaaaazing colors!  I was really pleased with the way this spun up - I am thinking of using it for something for the Bune's niece for the Fall.....

Bobbins

And here we see a bobbin of each corriedale in peridot (also from Copper Moose) and some blue multi colored merino from Firesong Fibers, which I picked up at Maryland S&W.

Oh ... and speaking of MS&W....  Have you seen the new issue of Spun?  Oh, but be sure to check out the article written by the Lovely Ladies of Leisure... of which I just happen to be a part.  Rock on, Lovely Ladies!

The Blues

So, sorry for not posting much this week.  :(  It's been a bit blue around here lately.

My friend Sharon, from work, passed away this past weekend after a long battle with a serious illness.  She was a really amazing lady - the kind that touches every person to come into contact with her.  When she laughed, you could hear it down the hall at work.  I loved that.  She led a vibrant and joyful life full of love and kindness.  Her death hit us all pretty hard.  Her like will not soon be seen again.

I guess it's one of those times when you pause to take stock in your life.  You ask yourself if you're living yours to the fullest.  Consequently, I've found myself turning sullen and short this week.  I know it will pass.  Just got some stuff to figure out, I suppose.  But, I keep finding the toughest lessons yield the greatest rewards...  and I've been blessed to have some amazing teachers along my way.

Here's to my friend Sharon!  May the Universe provide for you during your next journey...
