Rhinebeck, anyone?

It's that time of year again!

Anyone out there planning on heading to Rhinebeck for the NYS Sheep and Wool Festival? I know a bunch of the Scissorinas are planning on being in attendance - at least for the Saturday, 10/15 segment! I'd love to hear that some/all of my Lovely Ladies of Leisure are planning on making the trek... No matter how you cut it, it's a shorter trip than Maryland, girls! (Madame Boozehag, you should totally bring Helena if you make the trip!!)

A bunch of the Scissorinas and I are trying to organize an evening out after the festival - maybe dinner and drinks at a local establishment after we're done shopping on Saturday? Give a holler if you're game!

In other news, we are at t-minus 8 days till the big 2-8! Ack. I usually LOVE my birthday! It's a fun excuse to go out to dinner and drink some yummy sake, get showered with gifts and basically just have everyone tell me how great I am. This year feels a little... weird! It feels quiet and like it's no big thing and I'm so fricking anti-social that Mary is going to have to drag me kicking and screaming out of my apartment to go anywhere that night! (The bright side is that she WILL do this. She doesn't take my crap.) On the other hand, getting closer to 30 suddenly feels like it is a big deal - despite the fact that I've always felt the opposite! I guess I am just a bit ass backwards right now. Surely, once things settle down everything will flip back to it's non-bizarro position and all will be well in the world. Le sigh. :)

On another random branch of the tree that is this mucky post - check this link out:

My friend Greg thoughtfully sent this my way. I guess crocheted teddy bears with head wounds make him think of me. Sweet, right?

My favorite are the handknit dentures in a jar of water at the bottom of the page.

This stuff made me laugh so hard that I'm going to have to put some thought into a snippy little craft challenge.... What is the weirdest item you can knit? Hmmm....

Tag-o-rama

Ten Years Ago: Just started college, about to turn 18... In a long distance romance with my high school sweetheart which shortly led to one of the numerous and infamous breakups that plagued our time together (oh, the drama!). I was making friends and experimenting with lots of ... stuff. :) I was just at the very beginning of figuring out who I was when I wasn't with my fam... And I was loving every minute of it.

Five Years Ago: Got my office job and was adjusting to the corporate world (so far away from the crunchy granola world I had worked in for the 3 years prior) I bought my first non-junk car and had my first car payment and felt like a total grown up or some junk. Just had another of the infamous and numerous breakups with the aforementioned high school sweetheart (I told you! D-R-A-M-A! Oh, how I hate thee!)

One Year Ago:
Living with the Bune and my sister. This was about the time we got the Hat City Scissor Squad in full swing! YEE HA! Tons of new gals to stitch and bitch (and beer) with! Life was good.

Five Snacks:
Wheat thins, Nerds Rope, SKITTLES, baby carrots, gummy peaches

Five Songs I know all the words to: Superstitious by Stevie Wonder, Kings Crossing by Elliott Smith, Frog on my Toe by Tori Amos, Sara(h) by Fleetwood Mac, Never is a Promise by Fiona Apple

Five Things I would do with $100 Million:
1. Buy house with land land land
2. Fill said house with stray dogs and said land with angora goats, merino sheep and 2 cows (How Now and Brown Cow).
3. Buy my parents a house and set them up for life so my dad can write and my mom can make stuff.
4. Pay off all debt incurred by my sisters and pay for the youngest's college in advance.
5. Buy a house on the Lake in Maine that would belong to the family to share share share.

Five places to run away to: The Lake, Paris, Hawaii, Victoria BC, Australia

Five Things I would never wear: Tapered pants, leggings, THOSE DAMN NEWSBOY CAPS THAT MAKE EVERYONE LOOK SO STUPID, fur, fun fur

Five Favorite shows: Lost, CSI, Arrested Development, Mr. Show (RIP), Sealab 2021

Five Biggest Joys: the kids (aka the manimals), my awesome sisters, pajamas, the Scissor Squad (repre-SENT!), talking

Five Favorite Toys: my hottie of a digital camera, my new couch from IKEA, my computer (his name is Gonk, btw), my new kitchen to play in, my spinning wheel

Time to get off the Pity Pot

Okay. So, I can't just sit around feeling sorry for myself forever, right? Or rather, I could - but I'm really not supposed to.

So - the long and short of it... The Bune told me quite unceremoniously and rather out of the clear night sky, that he needs to figure his life out and he can't be in a relationship while he does it. Yeah. So, basically ... marriage, kids, spending the rest of my life with you.... not so much. Umm. Yep. You can probably imagine how the last few weeks have been and I why I haven't rushed to write about it. Everyone has an opinion on "why" (and I've been asking everyone because I really still don't get it...) but I understand there's really no answer for me right now. He kissed me goodbye and walked out that night with his last words being, "I love you and I'll talk to you soon." You guessed it. Haven't heard from him since. He's my best friend to boot. About 9 years of friendship, almost 3 years in a relationship and 18 months living together. Pret-ty heav-vy.

I usually don't go into this much detail on my blog, but I have the band-aid mentality right now. Rip it right off and get it over with. I find one of the hardest situations to deal with is when I have to relay the break up (even if it's just to get the words "we broke up" coughed out, seriously - harsh) to someone who hasn't yet found out.

I'm also hoping that writing it down will be somewhat therapeutic... God knows I need something to be therapeutic because this whole Barely Any Sleep, Not A Lot Of Food, Smoke A Pack A Day Therapy doesn't seem to be doing too much good.

I also just moved into my new place - solo - and am adjusting to living alone. Luckily I have the fuzzies to snuggle up with at night. The dog and cat are both adjusting better than I have - I'd have to say I'm impressed. And - yet again - I have moved into a place that already had a feline resident. The buttmunches who lived here before me left their kitty behind and he has adopted me. I. Love. This. Cat. More on him later when I can get some pictures of him posted.

So, in the spirit of playing catch up, here's a little list of where I'm at:

Knitting:
Cable Rib Socks from Spring '05 IWK - in Lorna's Laces Sheperd Sock (one sock done - one more to go)
Cabled Shrug from Summer '05 IWK - in Blue Sky Cotton (finished... umm note to self... get off lazy arse and take a picture!)
Orangina, (aka The Devil) - in Rowan Cotton Glace (Still working on the back, people... why is this taking me so long?)

Reading:
The Salmon of Doubt - a collection by Douglas Adams
*just finished White Teeth by Zadie Smith for the third time..... I lerv that book muchly.

Cooking:
For one! Veggies, veggies, veggies.
But, also made some orzo with spinach, tomatoes and parmesan and jumbo freshwater shrimp for Mary the other night when she came over to watch Lost. Don't want me getting rusty, do ya?

Watching:
The Muppet Show, Season I on DVD (Seriously the funniest shit I've ever seen..... I thought it was funny when I was a kid, but I didn't get the half of it)
Lost (FINALLY)
My Jets looking more like the team I know. (Despite everyone's criticism, I believe Chadwick will shake the jitters and show the F up sooner rather than later)

Current Obsession:
Cleaning things the second they get dirty!

Listening:
Is hard. Most of my music has been reminding me of who I love to talk music with. But, I've been trying - here's what's in the mix at the moment...
Fruit Batz - Spelled in Bones
Stevie Wonder - Collection
Neutral Milk Hotel - Aeroplane over the Sea
Pearl Jam - No Code (don't laugh - oldie, but a goodie....)
and Elliott Smith.... I'm just not ready yet.

Grateful For:
my fam (they have been incredible)
puppy kisses
A change in season

That's the scoop, peeps. I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things here. If you actually kept up with me to this point, thanks :) I'll be striving to bring you some actual crafty content as soon as possible.
