Say My Name! A Very Snippy Contest
Isn't he just the most handsome little man you ever did see?
I don't know if it's all the people adopting kittens or all the people having babies, but I found myself suddenly unable to resist this little mug. He is the offspring of my buddy Michelle's tiny black cat, Panther (no, Michelle did not name the cat - her hubby is completely responsible for that name. She wants you to know that.). He is an only child which resulted in one overprotective mama and a lack of social skills. Mitch was having a hard time finding him a forever home and I had repeatedly said no no no! No more creatures in my house! No more animal hair attaching to my backside upon sitting on my couch! Just no!
Then we met. Oh dear. Suddenly the kitten that had no interest in people showed interest in me. How can you say no to that? It's quite a compliment, really! And I do love a challenge... He's very clever and I just knew there was a loving little furball in there somewhere. And then I went and bought that bag of cat food "because it was on sale" and well, I think everyone knew I was full of it.
So, home he came. (After a traumatic experience of watching Mitch grab him from under the bed where he was napping with his mama. More traumatic for me than him, I think. I'm a baby stealer!) He went straight to the doctor's office for a checkup and the first shots.
Which is when I found out two facts from my fantastic vet:
1. At 12 weeks, to weigh 5.5 pounds means you are going to be ONE BIG CAT.
2. The name I had chosen would be completely inappropriate since Lola is not really a good name for someone with testicles.
Yup - the kitten Mitch had insisted was a girl - was a boy. Go fig. The same thing happened to Heather with her cat, The Chairman (previously known as Jasmine). And Mary was determined to bring home girls from the shelter, but it was 2 boys that stole her heart! I think we McNally lasses are just cosmic suckers for a pretty face.
So, we're back to 2 boys and 2 girls (including moi) in my house and I am pleased as punch.
But he needs a name! As is typical for me, he already has about 16 nicknames, including The Bean, Little Black Cat (or LBC), and Mister Fella, I know none of those are going to stick.
Here are some fun facts about LBC:
- He cried in the car the whole way to the vet - the only thing that quieted him down was singing "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman". Swear on a stack.
- His feet are so big he trips on them.
- His favorite pastime is playing with his little fabric ball - he picks it up in his mouth and runs to a preferred spot, then drops it and whacks the crap out of it.
- He looks like he's wearing legwarmers.
- His tail is as long as his body.
- His favorite place to nap is on my computer desk.
- He likes having his belly rubbed.
- When he tries to jump up on the windowsill, he falls on his ass.
- He doesn't purr often, but when he does it feels hella rewarding. :)
What better occasion for a little fun? To jog my noggin', I invite you to please leave a comment with your suggestions! Friday night, I will throw all my fantastic commenters' names in a busket and pull out the winner of:
![]()
Why, it's 3 skeins of purpley cotton chenille and a fat quarter of some Amy Butler fabric! Kitten leg not included.
And I'll do you one better, fair readers.... if your name actually STICKS(!), you will get a special prize to be determined by me and the cat to soon be formerly known as LBC.
Let's leave this little contest open until Friday at 8pm/ET when I will pick the winnah! Good luck to all - and let's name that cat! WOO!
PS - Need more kitten pics to get your fix? Well, here you go - some cute cute cute pics from my last photo shoot with Mary's boys.
EDITED TO ADD: The shop has been updated! Go take a look-see! ;)

LBC is precious! Congrats on the new addition to your family!
A name...how about Badtz? Short for Badtz-Maru, the penguin from the Sanrio/Hello Kitty line. http://www.sanrio.com/main/gallery/characters/xo.html
=)

I'm no good at giving names...I'm lucky the little one has a name. :)
But he looks like a cat I once had. Her name was Frisky. I do like Badtz-Maru though...that's an awesome name.

Sarah, Ryan's pick is Spot.

My BF's kitty's name wasn't Jasmine, it was Jezebel. But, I like The Chairman waaaaay more than I ever liked that sissy girl name!
I say you should still call him Lola, because of The Kinks's's's's' song 'bout trannies. And then you should sing to him, Ell-Oh-Ell-Ay, Looooh-la-ah.
But, then of course, I wanted to name The Chairman "Blah"...
:)

Adorable little baby. My vote is "Spike." The cat we had when I was a kid (he came into the fold when we were both wee ones) was named Spike, which I think is an awesome name for a cat. Lee and I named a cat Spike, but we had to give him away when we moved, so I didn't get to enjoy it.
I also think Sting is a badass cat name.

Sinclair (derived from Tony Sinclair in the Tanqueray commercials)
Other ideas: He looks very dignified in the picture where he's in the window sill. Seems like he could use a French boy name. Some are listed below:
Algernon (means mustachioed)
Lionel (means young lion)
Marcel (little hammer)
Berenger (courage of a bear)

Fritz! Ritz! Fitzgerald! Frank! Gerald! Basil! Miles! Niles! Giles!

Congradulations on the addition. He is so cute. The first name that came to mind was Bagheera from the Jungle Book. He was Mowgli's loyal panther freind and I bet this little guy will be just as loyal and loving. I hope I get to meet him in July. Love, Mom

What a cute little guy! Congrats (and I'm sure the trama of under-bed-extraction was short-lived, for both of you!)
I suggest calling him either Thunderpaws (he's going to be one big boy!) or Claude (just because he looks like a Claude!)

I say Ian, seeing as he whines :) Maybe he'll even go and cry somewhere. (Ian is my stepson's name ;)

I vote Milo! Just because I think it's a great name for a male pet.
