Cat + String = $$$
Sorry for the blog silence, everybody! The last week has been a little rough here around la casa...
Dave the Cat took ill very suddenly a week ago this last Sunday. He wouldn't eat... he wouldn't drink... and we couldn't figure it out!
After a day and a half of this nonsense, he went off to the vet. X-rays, bloodwork, IV fluids... ultimately the doctor couldn't give me a definite diagnosis, but his gut told him that Dave had eaten something and that surgery was the answer.
After a day full of drama over how I would pay for this, Dave went under the knife. Thank GOD(DESS), I got a mid-day call with the news that he was A-OK. The verdict? He had eaten some thread (snuck off a bobbin from a recent project left in a basket on my kitchen table) - a LOT of thread. It had looped behind his tongue, so it was hanging down his throat down into his tummy. :( Blech!
Well, the next day I got to bring him home and he has been spoiled ROTTEN since then. The poor little bugger went 6 days with no food! It has been a regular smorgasbord around here. Time to fatten him back up!
Subsequently, I spent my weekend moving every single craft supply I own into my second bedroom. It's all locked up tight now and I'll spend the upcoming weekend organizing everything completely. Never again will as much as a scrap be outside the newly built craft prison.
So, the moral of the story, fellow crafters, is LOCK UP YO STRING. For reals. This was the most expensive mistake I've made yet. :)
PS - Poor Dave is Frankenkitty until next week when his staples come out. Yes - staples! EEEK. The next time you think about being reckless and leaving your spools of thread laying about, try to remember this:
:( Poor Dave! Why do they make thread so tasty?

Oh no! My sister's dog regularly eats socks, and so far he's been able to pass them all...gross, I know! That's scary for your poor guy though. I'm glad to hear he's doing okay! :)

Sorry to hear about poor Mr. Dave. Hope he makes a speedy recovery!

That happened to our kitty when I was in high school! It was my fault, too, for leaving my sewing stuff out. I felt so bad for Priscilla with her perforated stomach. :-( Glad Mr Dave is on the road to recovery!

I'm so glad Dave is doing better - now I'm paranoid cause I have yarn ALL OVER - time to do a sweep of the house and put them in the craft room - or craft prison (I think I might have to use that from now on!)

My Portie is constantly eating stuff she shouldn't. Thanks for your blog post - it really woke me up!
