Marvelous Maine

So, it's taken me all week, but I finally pulled together my photos from our trip to Maine last weekend.

I am thrilled to report it was a fantastic, incident free trip! Well, we did drive up on Friday in a snowstorm... but we made it through without a scratch! And there was the incident where my right snowshoe broke through some ice and my leg plunged into a brook of icy water... but I managed to keep all my toes! That goes down as a success in my book.

On Saturday, Andy and Missy took us out for some snowshoeing down the road from The Lake. We shoed out to a really RAD little pond, which houses a blue heron rookery in the warmer seasons. You can't get anywhere near this place when the birds are in town - they don't put up with us humans. But, being it was February, they were on hiatus and we strolled out onto the frozen pond and wandered amidst their nest laden trees.

We eventually made our way up to the top of Big Hill (really - that's it's name. Mainers ain't the pretentious sort...) and were treated to a great vista. Our trek back to the car was a little longer and - for some of us - a little wetter. We eventually worked our way around a lot of thin ice and rushing water to find our way back to the Jeep. It was a hard day's work - you'd better believe showers and beers were the first items on the agenda when we got back to the house...

Sunday was another great, sunny day. We headed out to the outer part of Acadia National Park to hike the Wonderland trail for a walk on the coast. It was fantastic. I love the ocean - and to spend an afternoon exploring in the Winter, was a special treat. We headed down the road to take a peek at the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and then went into Bar Harbor for dinner at Geddy's. Yum!

So, it was a perfectly lovely weekend. SteveKam was introduced to 2 more relatives, snowshoeing, and my beloved Downeast Maine all in one trip. Quite a productive couple of days!

Oh - AND - Kyra got to run around on top of the lake with some new doggy pals and I went on a snowmobile adventure with my Uncle! :)

I will now begin my countdown to July when I get to go back for a whole week.

Only 124 days to go.
