News Flash

A few snippy little headlines for your Sunday reading pleasure.

SCISSORINA MAKES FIRST ETSY SALE, PROCEEDS TO BE SPENT ON EVEN MORE FABRIC
Wahoo! I have had zero time to promote, zero time to make new items - I mean, I haven't even told most of my friends that I'm up and running yet! But today I made my very first sale on Etsy despite all that. It makes a gal quite motivated to stock up the shop! Yay!

DAVE THE CAT KILLS MOUSE - MYSTERY ODOR DRIVES OWNER MAD
It's true. After 2 years of calling my cats useless, one of them decided to prove me wrong. I spent Friday night at my darling SteveKam's place. When I got home Saturday morning, I noticed that my bedroom smelled....funny. I immediately scolded Kyra for her non-stop fart factory of a rear end and got on with my day. When the smell didn't dissipate, I started to suspect there may be poo or puke involved. I tore apart my room - sheets torn off the bed, dog bed thrown downstairs, blankets and laundry bags removed. I vaccumed the carpet. I Fabreezed everything. I vaccumed again. The smell. was still. there. Then I went to unplug the vaccum. I glanced down and saw a little dark spot on the carpet. Hmm, what is that?", I thought. "Oh - what's that under the modem?" AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK. Dead mouse. Smelly dead mouse. Really big smelly dead mouse. Really big smelly dead mouse that looks like Jasper, the hamster I had when I was a kid. Well, mystery solved. :) After a calming phone call with SteveKam, I brought Jasper II outside and gently placed him under a tree in the yard. I haven't looked at Dave the cat in the same way since. He's tasted blood. He's all growed up. *sniff*

26 DIAPERS TAKE A LONG TIME TO MAKE
Wait. That's not news. We already know that. Well, they are coming along very nicely. Working on the inside layer now... hopefully they'll be done by next weekend!

SARAH BUYS MANY STICKERS, GIVING EXTRAS AWAY FOR FUN
It's true! I wanted a new bumper sticker for the Mazda, and have 3 leftover! They are the stickers seen here - I have 1 of the "My other car is a sewing machine" and 2 of the "Don't blame me, I voted for Etsy" stickers. First 3 to comment that they want one will get their wish! I'll email the winners for their mailing addys. :)

Okay - back to the Craft Prison Diaper Sweatshop. :) I am even more motivated now! Yee-ha!

Cat + String = $$$

Sorry for the blog silence, everybody! The last week has been a little rough here around la casa...

Dave the Cat took ill very suddenly a week ago this last Sunday. He wouldn't eat... he wouldn't drink... and we couldn't figure it out!

After a day and a half of this nonsense, he went off to the vet. X-rays, bloodwork, IV fluids... ultimately the doctor couldn't give me a definite diagnosis, but his gut told him that Dave had eaten something and that surgery was the answer.

After a day full of drama over how I would pay for this, Dave went under the knife. Thank GOD(DESS), I got a mid-day call with the news that he was A-OK. The verdict? He had eaten some thread (snuck off a bobbin from a recent project left in a basket on my kitchen table) - a LOT of thread. It had looped behind his tongue, so it was hanging down his throat down into his tummy. :( Blech!

Well, the next day I got to bring him home and he has been spoiled ROTTEN since then. The poor little bugger went 6 days with no food! It has been a regular smorgasbord around here. Time to fatten him back up!

Subsequently, I spent my weekend moving every single craft supply I own into my second bedroom. It's all locked up tight now and I'll spend the upcoming weekend organizing everything completely. Never again will as much as a scrap be outside the newly built craft prison.

So, the moral of the story, fellow crafters, is LOCK UP YO STRING. For reals. This was the most expensive mistake I've made yet. :)

PS - Poor Dave is Frankenkitty until next week when his staples come out. Yes - staples! EEEK. The next time you think about being reckless and leaving your spools of thread laying about, try to remember this:

DaveStapledUp.jpg

:( Poor Dave! Why do they make thread so tasty?

Photo Shoot Delayed...

...due to a crappy, ridiculous, ugly-Sarah-making cold.

I hate being sick. :(

So, since I can't bear the thought of photos of the way I look now being posted on the interweb, I'll share something else today.

Re: Dave the Cat.

Dave the Cat looooves to jump up on the kitchen table. And the counters. And the TV stand. And the bookcase. You get the idea.

As many of you have discerned at this point, I am not one to take crap from anyone... no matter how cute they are. I am a foot-putter-downer, friends. So, you can imagine the battle that has been raging here at Casa de la Scissorina as little kitty litter bearing kitten paws have been travelling all around my KITCHEN. (I am a freak about my kitchen being clean. A freak.)

The past couple of weeks, the attempts have slowed and I thought we were really getting somewhere.

As it turns out, he may have just gotten smarter and decided to grace the countertop appliances with his presence only while I was not around.

Here is what I found shortly after returning from the grocery store (I had just washed the dishes):

BadDave.JPG
DAVE! I know it's you. Tito is too fat and lazy to try anything like this. Not to mention his ass would have knocked ALL these glasses over in the process. That, and even his paws are fat, so these prints are clearly not his.

So, the battle continues.

In the meantime, he keeps trying to get his way by wooing me with cuteness.

DaveTitoCouch.JPG

It's totally not working. Pshh.

Did you know I have a blog?

So, now that Summer is coming to a close, it seems time that I get back to the ol' routine... ya know? The one where I actually post to the blog I pay for every month? Yeah.

I have been a major slacker in the blog area... (reading, writing, umm... everything!) but I swear the slacking isn't universal. I have been spinning, knitting, dyeing, quilting and W-O-R-K-I-N-G. Ugh-o-rama.

But rather than moan about long hours and the high stress level 'round here, I think I'll stick to the crafts... ;)

First up
- A finished pair of Broad Street Mittens - the Fig and Plum Glittens version!
Glittens1.JPG
Glittens2.JPG
Glittens3.JPG
Patterns: Broad Street Mittens (Knitty ) / Glittens modifications by Fig and Plum
Yarn: Socks that Rock in Scottish Highlands (from Christine - thanks, lady!)
Needles: Crystal Palace, US2, Bamboo circulars
Notes: Thank goodness Jess did all the work on the mods before I tried these suckers! They would have been super huge gigantic on my little manos. With the modifications, they came out perfect - it's the first pair of mittens/gloves I've actually knit for myself. :) It gives me something to look forward to this Winter. Not to mention, the colors in this yarn are kickin!

Next... Some lovely silk I dyed and have been spinning up to a worsted weight 2 ply yarn...

HubbaHubbaSilk.jpg
Colourway is a new one for Fiberfly - I call her Hubba Hubba and she's just one big blush.

And where is she off to in such a hurry? Why, she's being knotted up into last year's hot project - Clapotis! Better late than never, that's what I always say!

ClapotisWIP.JPG
Here's our status so far... a little over halfway there...

And we've got a couple of new bundles of fluff posted over at Fiberfly showing off two new colourways that MH and I scribbled up: Fat Cat (Mary's homage to Tito le cat) and Science Fiction 101 (my ode to 1960's sci fi comics). A couple more coming later this week, too. And we just completed our first custom order!

I'll leave you all with a cute little update on the cute little creatures that live in my apartment...

By the way... after all of that toil over his name, the little fella is official.

DaveTitoSnuggle.JPG
Here we see Dave snuggled up with his very best friend, Tito. If you don't find this adorable, I'm sorry - there's just nothing I can do to help you. You are clearly hopeless.

Say My Name! A Very Snippy Contest

LBCChair.JPG

Isn't he just the most handsome little man you ever did see?

I don't know if it's all the people adopting kittens or all the people having babies, but I found myself suddenly unable to resist this little mug. He is the offspring of my buddy Michelle's tiny black cat, Panther (no, Michelle did not name the cat - her hubby is completely responsible for that name. She wants you to know that.). He is an only child which resulted in one overprotective mama and a lack of social skills. Mitch was having a hard time finding him a forever home and I had repeatedly said no no no! No more creatures in my house! No more animal hair attaching to my backside upon sitting on my couch! Just no!

Then we met. Oh dear. Suddenly the kitten that had no interest in people showed interest in me. How can you say no to that? It's quite a compliment, really! And I do love a challenge... He's very clever and I just knew there was a loving little furball in there somewhere. And then I went and bought that bag of cat food "because it was on sale" and well, I think everyone knew I was full of it.

LBCPose.JPG

So, home he came. (After a traumatic experience of watching Mitch grab him from under the bed where he was napping with his mama. More traumatic for me than him, I think. I'm a baby stealer!) He went straight to the doctor's office for a checkup and the first shots.

Which is when I found out two facts from my fantastic vet:

1. At 12 weeks, to weigh 5.5 pounds means you are going to be ONE BIG CAT.
2. The name I had chosen would be completely inappropriate since Lola is not really a good name for someone with testicles.

Yup - the kitten Mitch had insisted was a girl - was a boy. Go fig. The same thing happened to Heather with her cat, The Chairman (previously known as Jasmine). And Mary was determined to bring home girls from the shelter, but it was 2 boys that stole her heart! I think we McNally lasses are just cosmic suckers for a pretty face.

LBCKyra.JPG

So, we're back to 2 boys and 2 girls (including moi) in my house and I am pleased as punch.

But he needs a name!
As is typical for me, he already has about 16 nicknames, including The Bean, Little Black Cat (or LBC), and Mister Fella, I know none of those are going to stick.

Here are some fun facts about LBC:
- He cried in the car the whole way to the vet - the only thing that quieted him down was singing "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman". Swear on a stack.
- His feet are so big he trips on them.
- His favorite pastime is playing with his little fabric ball - he picks it up in his mouth and runs to a preferred spot, then drops it and whacks the crap out of it.
- He looks like he's wearing legwarmers.
- His tail is as long as his body.
- His favorite place to nap is on my computer desk.
- He likes having his belly rubbed.
- When he tries to jump up on the windowsill, he falls on his ass.
- He doesn't purr often, but when he does it feels hella rewarding. :)

What better occasion for a little fun? To jog my noggin', I invite you to please leave a comment with your suggestions! Friday night, I will throw all my fantastic commenters' names in a busket and pull out the winner of:

LBCPrize.jpg
Why, it's 3 skeins of purpley cotton chenille and a fat quarter of some Amy Butler fabric! Kitten leg not included.

And I'll do you one better, fair readers.... if your name actually STICKS(!), you will get a special prize to be determined by me and the cat to soon be formerly known as LBC.

Let's leave this little contest open until Friday at 8pm/ET when I will pick the winnah! Good luck to all - and let's name that cat! WOO!

LBCSleepy.JPG

PS - Need more kitten pics to get your fix? Well, here you go - some cute cute cute pics from my last photo shoot with Mary's boys.

EDITED TO ADD: The shop has been updated! Go take a look-see! ;)

Revenge is a Dish Best Served Filled to the Brim

Have I ever mentioned that my two furry companions are obsessed with food? Well, they are. Both of them.

Kyra has been a successful participant in the Boot Camp that is Sarah's Puppy Dog Diet. She lost the pounds, looks great, has energy! But, she has never faced her mental issues... she clearly associates food with love (seriously - when I first cut back her portions, she was totally depressed and bummed out!). So, I keep an eye on her and feel proud that I was able to help her get back to a normal healthy size and try my best to keep her from licking the ice cream from little kids' cones when we're at the park.

Tito (aka Mister T) is not a successful participant in ANYTHING. He is a big loudmouth when he doesn't get food OR when there is not enough to his liking. He loves to eat his bowl of food, yell at me for more and when more is not delivered, he runs to the nearest spot of carpet and claws the crap out of it while staring at me. Cute, right? He is the kind of over-eater that would eat himself to death. And he'd die happy. Because THAT IS HOW MUCH TITO LOVES FOOD. Recently, I decided to go hardcore and ignore his pushy, destructive ways. "You're going on a diet, Fatso!" I declared. (I'm not mean. Have you seen this cat? He weighs like 17 pounds. It's unreal.) Reduced calorie food and severly smaller portions! Three days in and things seemed to be going smoothly.

Too smoothly.

This morning, I awoke to this:

Evidence.JPG

This is a bag of kitten food I picked up at the store and had placed on the counter. Why a bag of kitten food, I hear you asking? Well, it was on sale and I had been considering adopting the kitten that my buddy Michelle's cat recently had (she is an only child and needs some work to come out of her shell - more on her another day) and saw the kitten food and figured - either I will keep it for her or I will give it to Michelle if I can't take her. Mystery explained. Anyway - it was up on the counter when I went to bed. It was no longer on the counter when I got up this morning.

This, loyal readers, was a joint effort. You see, Kyra cannot get up on the counter, but Tito sure can. And Tito - for all his voracity - is incapable of tearing such a giganto hole straight down the side of the bag as we see here. No, friends - this involved teamwork.

Have Kyra and Tito finally found the one thing that can cause them to bond and work together? Have they finally realized that the other is just as pissed as they are that the lady with the opposable thumbs is keeping a lock on the pantry door?

Or maybe they figured if they ate this bag of food, then I couldn't possibly bring another animal into their home?

Either way, the result was the same.

This is how I found them:

Perp1.JPG

Perp2.JPG

And wouldn't you know it? Not one peep from anybody so far today for food. As a matter of fact, I dropped some of my lunch right in front of Kyra's face and she couldn't bring herself to eat it.

I'd like to think this taught them a lesson. Too bad it will be forgotten by 6:40am tomorrow morning when my alarm goes off.

Thank You.

Just wanted to slap a quick post up here to say a big Thank You to everyone for your kind words and good thoughts. It has helped tremendously, I really appreciate you guys!

I am missing my little boy-o like mad, but wouldn't you know it, I seem to have discovered Mr T (aka Evil Cat)'s cryptonite.

Tears.

I cried and he shut up.
He calmed down. He was attentive and cuddly. He let me sleep past 7am without a screaming meow style wake up call that his belly needed filling. He has not ventured up the chimney in days. I am stunned.

Kyra - as I predicted - has been moping around the house, sad as all get out. But we're getting each other through it. Of course, she finds herself victim to Mister T's slow, yet inevitable comeback to the world of no-goodery... Now that he is the primary feline, why not go after his only competition? Yup. Last night he was trying to smack Kyra around. The dog doesn't seem to mind - it's still attention and lordy knows she can't get enough of that...

Knitting news to come - I do have a finished object... Finished days and days ago! Time to get the sucker captured for posterity, already...

And in the Morning He was Gone.

FlaneWokeUp.JPG

At 2:30am this morning my sweet little Flane passed on from this world.

My little man had lost weight rapidly over the last 3 days. I was trying to figure out what it could be that was suddenly bothering him so much. Despite the weight loss, I was able to get him to drink and nibble on his food - and, as always, his spirits were high. I decided to see how he did and I would take him to the vet Saturday morning to see if he had a tummy bug or if it might just be stress from Mr. T wailing on him for the past few weeks. I left yesterday morning for work and he was up and about wandering the house as always.

I arrived home to discover him curled up in a corner of the bathroom. A place I've never found him sleeping before. One look and I knew something was terribly wrong. He looked like a different cat than the one I had kissed goodbye that morning. He was having trouble breathing and couldn't move around without terrible effort. I called the emergency clinic - and Mary. For the first and only time, Flane didn't put up a fight to get into the carrier. We were on our way.

I consider myself blessed that the nearest emergency clinic wouldn't accept the only credit card I had access to. It placed Flane in the caring hands of Dr. Pelletier in Cheshire. I knew from the moment she walked through the door, that if this could be fixed, she would do it. Upon examination, she said she could see that he was very ill, but had to keep him at the clinic for tests to find out what the problem was.

I kissed his mug goodbye and Mary and I made our way home to wait up for the doctor's call. It came at midnight and the news was not good. Flane had cancer. It was in his lungs and in his bone marrow. Chemotherapy was an option she said, but to go through it he had to regain his strength and she feared he wouldn't make it through the night. He had been hiding a serious illness from me for a very long time. Which, if you had the pleasure of meeting Flane, should come as no surprise. The strong, silent type for certain. Our little Buddha. Nothing has ever phased him. He has always just glowed - upon meeting him you instantly feel that he has figured something out that you have yet to even ponder. A very strong and loving soul. A soul that has doubtlessly reached enlightenment and has wisdom beyond his earthly years.

FlaneJulian2Small.jpg
Here he is nuzzling little Julian. Pulled ears meant nothing but love to Flane. I've never seen a cat so patient with kids and their grabby hands.....

The doctor told me that while she could help with pain and appetite, the few tools at her disposal to try to help with his difficulty breathing were not helping. It was expending all of his energy. He was struggling. He was dying. I've been very lucky in my life to have never have to make the decision I did last night. Animals who have spent their years with me and my family have always left on their own. Through illness, injury or old age. If there was any chance that he could pass away comfortably at home, it is surely what I would have chosen. It just wasn't the case.

Mary and I cried and talked and collected ourselves. At about 1:45, we climbed back into the car and made the hardest drive of my life. I wanted to get there so quickly. To be with him, and hold him and kiss him and let him know how much I loved him and that he was the biggest blessing ever bestowed upon a sad little girl like me. But, I wanted the car ride to slow every time I realized what was about to happen. We were going to say goodbye. Something that we shouldn't have to do for so many more years.

As soon as I saw him again, I knew he was in so much pain. He couldn't breathe. It couldn't be fixed. He looked at me with those big golden eyes and it was just incredibly hard. I kissed him about a hundred and fifty times. I was crying. Mary was crying. The doctor was crying. Every single one of her staff was crying. How do you say goodbye to someone who has given you so much? Someone who has gotten you through the toughest six months of your life so far. This little someone was so much bigger than the fluff and bone encasing him. I had to be as strong as Flane to end the pain and let him pass on to whatever was next for him.

I miss him. To be honest, right now I hate this house without him. I see him everywhere and I can't believe what just happened over the course of one evening. Three days ago he was his normal self. Following me room to room like a little dog and curling up next to me at night in the same exact curve of my leg as we both fell asleep - just like every night. But, not last night. And it is killing me. I want to write that I know I did the right thing. I want to write that there was no way for me to know what was going on inside of him. But, to be honest - I feel guilty. I feel like I let him down. There should have been something for me to do. Some way for me to help him. It seems so surreal that he could hide that kind of pain for so long.

But, ultimately I have to realize - that was Flane. Flane never cried. He never complained. He was a taoist. He was a stone in a stream. The water would rush around and over him. But he remained steady. To the end.

FlaneNappingSmall.jpg
I miss you boy-o. My little Irish man. My redhead. My roommate. My friend. I was a lucky girl to have you in my life as long as I did. Until we meet again.....

Mary posted some great pictures of our little guy over at her site and tells the story of our first meeting. I'm eternally grateful for her being with me last night.

The Eternal Battle of Good vs. Evil

Mr. T has taken a turn for the worse. His sometimes funny, but mostly painful, habit of biting me on the nose when I least expect it was just an introduction to his fierce temper and twisted little sense of humor. Over the past few weeks, he has grown increasingly aggressive with poor little Flane. (The difference in their behaviors is so staggering that I have begun to call them Evil Cat and Good Cat. Guess who's who.)

FlaneGood.jpg
Good good Flane taking refuge on top of the couch behind my head.

What's most alarming to me is that it seems he gets most aggressive when Flane is trying to spend any quality time with me. It used to be that T would just chase him around a little bit - it seemed fairly random. When T got bored, he'd chase Flane. When T got really hepped up on catnip, he'd chase Flane. When T was hungry and I was ignoring him because he just ate a HUGE BOWL OF CAT FOOD AND THEN SHOVED HIS FACE INTO FLANE'S BOWL AND ATE HIS TOO, THANKYOUVERY MUCH, he'd chase Flane. Kyra is usually the mediator... she runs in and breaks it up and Flane runs away while T gives Kyra a nasty look seemingly the feline equivalent of sticking your tongue out at someone - while standing his ground entirely. He's not afraid of the dog.

What has changed, you ask? Here's a typical evening in my apartment:

Poor little Good Cat jumps on the couch and lay down next to me. Evil Cat comes out of the kitchen like a bat out of Hell. He leaps through the air, lands on Good Cat's but and BITES. Good Cat yelps! He flees! Evil Cat pursues!

Once Good Cat is out of the picture, Evil Cat immediately returns to take his spot on the couch next to me. Ummm... NO. Evil shalt not be rewarded in my house. "Scoot, scoot", I say.

Quickly, he jumps off the couch and runs to attempt another daring escape up the chimney. Good thing there's a flue - even if it is broken.

Now Evil Cat is - very appropriately - covered in soot and appears pitch black instead of his normal misleading shade of apricot. I chase him to clean him off before he sits his evil ass on my white couch. When I catch him, he is purring. Loudly. Then he bites me. I yelp. He tries to engage me in a staring contest that I'll never win. Once he is clean he runs to one of the few pieces of carpet in the house that is yet to be destroyed by his claws and digs in, making sure I can hear his claws and his purring. In my most loving tone, I tell him, "STOP IT, YOU PSYCHO!" and he books for the chimney again. I pour a big glass of whatever liquor has most recently been left at my house.

TEvil.jpg
Evil Mister T trying his best to look inconspicuous.

This is far from the worst thing he's done yet. But it is a typical evening en la casa de scissorina. What, may I ask, am I supposed to do? He is destroying the entire carpet in my apartment. He corners Good Cat on a daily basis and it is actually having a negative psychological effect on the poor little guy at this point (last night, 1am, T has cornered Flane downstairs and they are going at it. I run down there to find Flane curled up in the corner puffed out and hissing. I carry him upstairs and since Kyra has already suckered me into letting her sleep on the bed, I place Flane in a safe spot between the two of us. He cuddles as close as he can to me. :( My poor little man!)

I so prefer dogs. You can train a dog. What the fuck am I to do about this???

edited to add: and the protective nature doesn't end with felines. evil cat took issue with my human male friend this past weekend. ears back, cold stare. nope, he doesn't like competition - no matter the species.

Little Lucy

Okay - just a quick post before I run off to chomp down some dinner and run out the door to FINALLY see Harry Potter with Mary and Scott... weeee!

Lookit who lives with my Mom, Dad and Cait now!!!

puppy3.JPG

Oh yes. They've joined in on the recent adopt-a-pup craze that's been going on in my family as of late. Meet Lucy (short for Lucerne, one of the names for the lake we visit in Maine). I was lucky enough to meet her when I was down in Florida. We tricked my Mom into going to the animal shelter to look at pups and there she was.... So cute in her brindled coat and puppy teeth. She's about 5 months old and all puppy from what I hear!

They just picked her up this week and they are all in love (and rightly so!).

Here's a pic with her favoritest person, Caitlin, for scale - and cuteness!!!!

Welcome to the fam, little one! Kyra and Gracie can't wait to get their noses on you!

A Walk in the Park

I awoke to a beautiful Spring like day here in CT! And of course, feeling very accomplished from the get go since we got an extra hour from stoopid DST... Mary, Scott and I decided to take full advantage of it. Who knows how many more of these we'll have before the big chill hits....

We took Kyra and Gracie to the Housatonic Railbed Trail in Monroe. It was perfect! With Gracie in recovery from hip surgery, she needs to learn how to use her right hind leg again and this trail's totally flat and very long, so it was good exercise for the newest addition to the McNally menagerie.... We only did about a mile of it and then turned back , but the pups had a good time sniffing every leaf in the vicinity and pulling tirelessly on their leashes.... :)

TrailMSnG.jpg
Here's Mary and Scott and their bouncing baby girl. She's soooo perty.

TrailKyraPose.jpg
And Kyra strikes a pose for the camera.

TrailKyraWalk.jpg
This was my view for most of our walk.....

Fun fun fun! I'd love a few more weekend days like this one... Just to tide me over until the celebrated thaw in the Spring! Hope everyone got outside and enjoyed this beauty of a day!

Oh - and I got quite a bit of knitting done on this quiet, uneventful weekend! More on that later - hoping to have an FO (or two!) before too long....

Meet the new man in my life...

MrTLounge.jpg

His name is Mr. T and he pities the fool who won't give him snacks.

Yes, I am a sucker and apparently the animal kingdom is well aware. This little fella was living in my sideyard when I moved in, dumped by the asshole previous tenant who lived here. It took a couple of weeks to get an appointment at the vet to make sure he was healthy and get him his shots before he could come inside and mingle with Kyra and Flane, but now he's inside and very, very talkative.

And bold.

Here we see him in Kyra's bed. The vet insists he is neutered, but I tell you this cat has balls.

MrTKBed.jpg

So far, so good though. Kyra loooooves kitties. Luckily, she's not a territorial dog unless someone is trying to deliver my mail or take away my garbage.... then she'll let you hear it. Flane on the other hand.... is none too happy. Hopefully, it will subside and we'll have a happy little fam.

And as promised for weeks, here are some knitting pics to prove that I am still a somewhat productive human being these days!

I finished a whole sock! And am speeding along on number 2.... These are the Cable Rib Socks from IWK Spring '05 in some fantastic Lorna's Laces sock yarn I picked up at the Great De-stash.

CableRibWIP.jpg

And just last night I couldn't resist the temptation to start up a sweater, so here's my meager progress on the Hourglass Sweater from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. I'm knitting this sucka up in a hemp/cotton blend. Crunchy granola all the way, baby. I'm using the technique from the Aint Nothin But a T-Shirt pattern to knit the hem to save myself from the extra seaming at the end....

HourglassWIP1.jpg

That's it for now. I'm off to break up some catfights! ME-OW!

Park It!

Dog park it, that is!  We have discovered a new playground for pups nearby and Kyra loooooves it!

The Bune and I took her on Friday afternoon after work and it was a hit!  Lots of dogs to make new friends with, a huge field to run around like the little nut that she is, a couple of small trails upon which to hike, and a river to jump in for a nice cool down!  I took her back today and she loved it twice as much.  I think I'm about to have a new after work routine, folks.

Here are some gratuitous pictures of the lady of the hour.  (And her proud papa....)

In related news, let's look at how freaking cute my cat Flane is....  We discovered on Tuesday night (when the Scissor Squad meeting poured over to our house because the f'ing coffeeshop decided to close at 9 instead of 10 like we were told they would!) that Flane loooooves babies.  Julian was tring to pet him and shocked to discover that Flane did not run and hide like his kitties at home do!  In fact, Flane snuggled right up to him, treating him to a few of his trademark headbutts.

Orangina
And oh yeah - I do still knit.  Here's my meager progress on Orangina!  And Lelah is almost done, too!

**How could I forget????  I was treated to a neat surprise in my mailbox yesterday!  The Fall issue of Interweave Knits!  I literally did a happy dance in the street.  I am SO knitting the Union Square Market Pullover.  Who's with me?
