Yarn, LLC

This past Sunday, a few representatives of the Hat City Scissor Squad trekked to New Haven to a little shop called Yarn!

A small shop, but packed to the brim, I tell ya!  They have a varied selection of yarn, including hand dyed wool from a local farm!  It's a very visually appealing shop - yarns are arranged by color, rather than texture.  I find a shopper's preference is quite personal.  I have a verrry tough time shopping in stores where yarn is arranged this way.  When the stock is sorted by texture, I have a much easier time finding what I'm looking for.  But - I am a knitter who goes to shops with something in mind!  For those that shop just to ... well, shop(!) this place is surely heaven.  They have a small wooden table for gettin' yer knit on and even hosted a knitting birthday party a few weeks ago!  FUN!

The staff was very friendly and helpful.  They gleefully dug through piles of yarn to help my bud Lauren find enough mohair for her new sweater project.  As you can see, my bounty was much smaller than last week's excursion - I behaved myself.  I picked up the Rowan Summer Tweed I needed to finish the Silkroad Cardigan I've been plugging away at - as well as the book I've been dying to get - Last Minute Knitted Gifts!  I've already started sifting through my stash to see what I've got to make the Hourglass Sweater... oooh!

So, with my shiny new ratings system in place (Thankyouverymuch Mary!), I'll be rating out of 10 from now on...  I did have a tough time finding yarn and it doesn't have the big knitting area Knottygirl does - but it does have a more varied stock...

I gave Yarn a 7.5 on the scissor scale!

I'm a Knottygirl!!!

Oh baby.  On Saturday, I took an excursion with my sistahs Mary and Heather to Knottygirl, the new yarn shop in Fairfield.  Wow.  What an awesome little shop!  The owner is super enthusiastic, which I love to see!

The decor is very, very cute - as you can see from the bag below, this lady knows style.  In the front of the shop she has overstuffed velvet couches and a little plasma screen tv (ooh la la!) - it's called the Knotty Lounge.  Tres chic!

I found the selection to be very nice - a great array of Colinette, Manos del Uruguay, Crystal Palace, Cascade and Berrocco. Along with a whole lot of little treats I simply have not seen anywhere else.  If she adds Koigu, I doubt I'll shop anywhere else...  Ah, Koigu...

While I was there I spent a disgusting amount of money - but how can one resist?  I picked up some CP Squiggle for a skinny summer scarf, some Fizz and Fling for a future bag project, some Cherio (SUPER cute papery ribbon yarn covered in fleurs... I have no clue what I will use this for, but it will be something super, I assure you) and some Bling Bling for my Boozehag dedication project.  Oh yeah, and a couple of sets of CP circ's for socks!  The needles are soooo tiny!

The trip was a success and I will definitely be back!  I heart Knottygirl.

Rating:   8 scissor slamma-jamma!
